Streamlining
We’ll have much more room when we clear out all the stuff the kids don’t play with. Let me think about it…oh yes, that would be all their toys, then.
We can get rid of more than one of anything like cars or balls or colouring books because if they do want to play it’s with the same thing at exactly the same time, so it’s pointless having duplicates.
We can do away with the drawers in the playroom then because our youngest just empties them all over the floor and then leaves the contents for the puppy to chew, so it’s only a matter of time before that stuff gets binned, anyway.
Musical instruments are surplus to requirements because he’s obviously a fan of percussion and just pulls the utensils out of the drawer and makes beautiful music by banging them on the wood floor as hard as he can.
The older two have hours of fun just running and sliding across the laminate in their socks as though they’re at a wedding. They like it especially when the dog’s chasing them and it creates an interesting cacophony of dog barks and children screaming and laughing (until someone hurts themselves and then loud wailing is thrown into the mix).
We can ditch the television and get a radio instead because it seems to just be there for background noise anyway.
Earlier the youngest and I spent half an hour playing with, wait for it, a toilet roll, letting it fall off our heads, using it as a periscope to peep at each other and wearing it as a bracelet, and I didn’t even have to get up to get a tissue for him ‘cos it’s a two for one deal; genius! Show me a toy that you can play with AND wipe your nose on at the same time, I challenge you.
The dog’s crate is our youngest’s special little Wendy House so I may just hang some pretty curtains and put a tea set in there and he’ll be sorted. We can also lock it which is useful, just in case he tries to escape again (see Losing Things).
And if we manage to clear out the big toy box, I could have my own little hiding place to escape to but shh, don’t tell the kids…
