Nostalgia
I feel sorry for kids these days who won’t experience proper cartoons with decent animation like ‘Thundercats’, ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ and ‘Dangermouse’; ‘Bagpuss’ deserves its own special mention (‘We will fix it, we will fix it’).
I miss the long hot summers (we did used to have them), playing on my bike that my Grandad customised by attaching a metal bread bin the back and painting the same bright red as the rest of it. I had hours of fun riding around with my cat, Suzy, in the back of that (admittedly, it probably wasn’t that much fun for Suzy).
I yearn for the time when I could get a spiral perm that would last for two years and take hardly any styling (bit of mousse, blast with a diffuser and job’s a good ‘un) and drinking ‘Blastaways’, a special and lethal cocktail of ‘Castaway’ and ‘Diamond White’ in pint glasses (classy) or Malibu and Coke if we were feeling flush.
I remember being able to go down town on a Sunday night (THE night to go out) and only spend a fiver on drinks, cheesy wedges (not a euphemism for anything dodgy, just a tasty carbohydrate and protein laden snack) and still have enough for a taxi home.
We had Wham, ’nuff said.
But we had shellsuits and dungarees, so the less said about those the better. Â We also wore HUGE hoop earrings – what was I thinking? Oh wait, I still wear those now…

Refreshing read, you and my significant other would probably love each other’s blogs!
