Our Family’s Guide to DIY – Lesson #1 – Painting: 1) Take the whole family on an exciting trip to Homebase.  2) Get the £26 paint out of the car, drop it and spill half its contents on the road. 3)  Clear the paint up but feel happy that at least it’s a nice colour. 4) Sand down the surfaces but forget to clear up the dust so it can all stick in the paint. 5) Start your slapdash painting with kids arguing and crying in the background. 6) Realise halfway through that you don’t have masking tape or filler so go on another trip to Homebase. 7) Finish the painting, trying to ignore the lumps and bumps. 8) Et voila – one decorated kitchen, painted with love and good intentions but not a lot of skill 😀
